SUEZ, Shenghong Group and Sinopec Guangzhou Engineering Partner for Innovation, Winning the Comité France Chine 2021 Innovative Initiative Award
On 29 November 2021, SUEZ, Shenghong Group and Sinopec Guangzhou Engineering received the Comité France Chine (CFC) 2021 Innovative Initiative Award for their green ultra-low petrochemical wastewater discharge solution. The award-winning solution has excellent performance on “treating wastes with wastes” concept, realizing recycling, energy saving and emission reducing. In receiving the award, SUEZ reinforces its reputation for innovative technology, as well as its commitment to resource utilization, environment protection and conservation of biodiversity.
The project is located in Lianyungang, a city in the north of Jiangsu Province, which is home to world-class coastal wetlands. In China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, Jiangsu Province will focus on integrated pollution cleanup, waste and carbon reduction, ecological restoration, and biodiversity conservation. This aligns with the central government’s goals of improving resource and energy efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions and water consumption in the petrochemical industry.
Shenghong Group, headquartered in Lianyungang, is one of China’s top 20 petrochemical companies. Its integrated refining and petrochemical complex is a key state-supported project positioned to become a new benchmark for the country’s petrochemical industry. SUEZ applies the design concept of treating waste with waste to provide an affordable and reliable full-process solution This solution is the highest reclamation of wastewater, and the most stringent discharge limit of high concentration reverse osmosis brine in the world petrochemical industry. The project will reduce CO2 emissions by 8,000 tons and save RMB 20 million in operating expenses per year.
Shenghong Group said, “We’re confident that in working with SUEZ we will be able to make this innovative solution a model for green development in the petrochemical industry around the world. Last year, the Chinese government announced its targets to peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and to achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. We’re convinced that this solution will contribute to China’s carbon neutrality goals. It will also provide a strong impetus for global action in the petrochemical industry, towards green, sustainable development.”
Sinopec Guangzhou Engineering indicated, "Shenghong Group is a top-500 global enterprise. SUEZ is a world-leading water and wastewater treatment expert. Sinopec Guangzhou Engineering is one of the largest EPC general contractors in China with 65 years of experience in the petrochemical industry. We believe that strengthening our strategic partnership with Shenghong Group and SUEZ will significantly boost our cooperation on low-carbon and environmental projects.”
Francois Fevrier, CEO of Water in SUEZ Asia, said, “We’re delighted that SUEZ has received recognition from the CFC for the third time. For 160 years, SUEZ has regarded innovation as the bedrock of its business growth. We’re immensely proud to have been recognized again for our green, innovative wastewater treatment solution in one of the largest petrochemical projects in China. Through ideas like waste-to-resource conversion and treating waste with waste, we can reduce operational expenses while significantly mitigating carbon emissions, a concrete example of our commitment to sustainable development.”
